Home Adopt a Dog Memorials Adoptions 2010 Adoptions 2008-2009 Adoptions Archive
Our hope is that all dogs born into this world will one day find a home that provides as much
unconditional love and affection as they do. And although it is not realistic that all dogs can
be treated and cared for adequately, we like to commend our adoption parents that have
found a place in their heart to dedicate a little time and responsibility to welcome "man's best
friend" into their home. Undoubtedly, each new adoptive parent will find that in return for
their effort, they will come to understand the value of a four-legged friend who will love,
protect, and cherish their companionship more than ever.
The following are dogs that have been rescued by either the group sponsoring this website,
or others who have adopted from a shelter or other rescue group. We welcome you to
submit your "happy tail" to be posted. If interested, please e-mail us with a picture and brief
(100 words or less) story.
Oh Geri,
How are you? I'm so very sorry I've lost a little touch. I've been so wonderfully consumed with my little girl, getting her
schedule down (and my new one too!). But speaking of her Boston-based education, I'll have you be the first to know that today we graduated from Puppy Basic Training! Her trainer, Katrina, cannot believe how well she has responded and has given us the green light to fly out wings for a few weeks to practice everything since she has come such a long way in only 2 WEEKS!! So instead of every Monday afternoon we will go every 2-3 weeks. As well, it is her way of weaning me and send us off together! We went to the vet last week, she gained 2 lbs in 10 days. Interestingly enough, vet thinks she will only be about 50 lbs! At this age the formula they use for this is to double their current weight, plus about 10lbs. I just adore her; she sleeps thru the whole night, mostly I have to wake her up around 7 to start our day. Boy does she wag her tail and give me huge kisses when I open her crate. She LOVES the crate - great sense of security for her. She is incredibly well behaved and responsive, SO LOVABLE and affectionate, as you knew already! We are working a bit on building confidence by socializing with people and other dog and soon, dog groups with Katrina. She already has a boyfriend! Baily, a beautiful Golden. What's more, she has also brought such incredible joy to my mother, so together she really has changed our lives and I thank you so very much for this! Okay she is having puppy dreams right now, I'm going to go kiss her!

The ride home went without incident, she wimpered a little bit but nevertheless Cocoa immediately jumped back through to the back to lay down with her and Cinnamon went to sleep.  Upon arrival home she had to check everything out and surprisingly went straight for her food dish ate a lot of her food and also drank some water then started to whine a little.  *Smile* I knew what was coming next therefore I stood outside with her for a little while and she went both ways.  She woke up a couple times in the night so I took her outside then back to her nice warm crate where she relaxed and went back to bed.  All in all a Great 1st Night!!!
Talk To You Soon,

Now living in Charlotte, NC with his owner, Alex. Alex works in the banking business but is able to slip away for a few minutes to be sure his 'child' is cared for properly. Alex and Jethro are inseparable. Jethro is still a bit reserved but growing by leaps and bounds.  Luckily, Jethro's owner knows China's owner and they have "play dates" for the "kidz".
Hi Mrs Cutway,

China is doing great. She is using it outside with no problem and knows how to stand at the door when she needs to go. The only problem is she is a little spoiled but I can deal with that. I really appreciate everything. She is wonderful.

On St Patty's day, the Irish smiled on Barney.  He was adopted by Jean and Dorothy in Rock Hill SC.  Jean has had a Beagle all her life....in fact, used to breed a litter or two.  Recently, the ladies have been recuing Beagles. Barney is comforting Jean at nap-time.
Hi Geri!
Just thought we would check in with you and let you know everything is going great with Gretz!  He is perfect!  We thought we would send you some pictures as promised!  He is getting so big!  He has been to the dog park a few times, and he is now getting to be a really good running partner.  He has even been swimming a couple of times.  Thanks again for everything!

I just wanted to say hello and give you an update on Ava. She is
growing and sweet as ever. I am very proud of her. I am slowly letting her be outside her crate when I am gone few times she has done very well, and in others I've had to buy new rug etc.. lol. Nothing major. Fridays are her days to go to day care and play with other dogs, and sometimes go down to Lake Jackson with my neighbor that has the 2 huskys. Every other day I take her with me jogging and she does very well. I am attaching new pics of her.

Hi Geri,

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you, but we have been having so much fun with our pups Jasper and Charlie!  I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful these two boys are.  Wherever I go, people comment on how beautiful they are, and how well-behaved.  They are very easily trained and have been an absolute delight.  They love their early-morning walks around the lake, rides in the car, chasing each other around the yard, and swimming in the river. And since my brother adopted another pup from the same litter, they even get weekly visits with their brother Harley.  I'll send some photos so you can see how they've grown.

Thank you so much for the work that you do!  Our family is now complete!

Sincerely,
Tammie

Hi Geri and Norm!
Thanks more than I can say for the pleasure and privilege of Truman's company. He is an absolute joy. He thrives on kindness and learns quickly. He sleeps like a baby and hasn't had a seizure in days. I think the quiet, loving environment of his forever home has done wonders. He is currently on a diet which doesn't suit him at all, but he gets snacks of apple sections and I think I'll introduce carrots tomorrow. If he can chew it, he will eat it. Larry gave him a doggie ice cream treat last night and he ate it with gusto container and all....that was an accident! He gets along well with other dogs and we are planning a "play date" with the yellow Lab next door. Now if we can only convince him that it is better to poop outside....thru the doggie door....than on the carpet, life will be golden! Hope all is going well with you and "the tribe"....God sees what you do and smiles.

Maggie is a GREAT dog...we are all so fortunate to have found each other....I needed her to help me "move on" from Eddie (my Schnauzzer mix), Dave needed to learn to "touch and feel," and Maggie needed "us."

I have just picked her up from her 1st "grooming"...she looks Soooooo good, and I told her...you should have seen her...she justy wagged and wagged that tail of hers! She has been bathed at the Vet's, but I could not comb her well enough to get out all the "dead hair"...so the groomer (I used him for my other 2 dogs), combed out her back, trimmed up her paws, and ears, and her face looks more like an Airedale's now...she is VERY beautiful!

She is a lovely dog...smart, great disposition, and really wants to please. We (Dave) has finished the "electronic" fence, so we will start some "training" this weekend. I want both of us to be around, and have her on a long leash. She will never be left out like this... only when we are working in the garden.

Dave managed very well when I was in Ottawa moving my 88 yr old mother (for the month of August). She was walked 4x a day, and given LOTs of TLC. We have the assistance of a great dog walker who has rescued MANY Lab mixes, so is very "in tune" with their needs.

Please pass this on to Martha Ann, and let her know that "Mag's" is doing well!

Hello Geri!

All is well! Sister (Daisy) was a little miffed at first ... but they are playin' like old pals now :)

His new name is Charlie ... and he already answers to it! I ordered Halloween costumes for them today ... a football player and a cheerleader ... because there is a Costume Contest at the Dog Walk next weekend! I'm sure they will win a prize! I have attached some pictures ... we sure do love him! AND I am doing my best to find Habanero an owner close by!!! I'd love to find Chili and/or Nutmeg one, too :)

Thanks again! I will keep in touch and send pictures!

Good wishes!
Jen, Becky, Daisy, Charlie (aka Cayenne) & Jack

P.S. The cat (Jack) hid all night last night ... but today he ventured out to meet his new brother! Charlie is just curious ... Jack is just a cat :) They are getting used to one another, though!

Hi Geri,

I adopted Ginger last year and I remember you telling me how much you loved to get pictures and updates. Well here's a family picture from last Christmas, and Ginger snuggled down with her Uncle Toby, and her snuggled under the covers with Landon sometime this spring. Haven't gotten any recent pictures because my camera died, but hopefully will rectify that soon.

Thought you also might like an update since I believe Ginger is turning 1 sometime this month! Can you believe it? It already feels like she's been a part of this family forever. We love her so much. She's such a good dog. She only weighs about 30 lbs and we don't think she's gonna grow anymore. Her legs have gotten a lot longer, but overall she's still small (at least compared to her Uncle Toby, but he is a giant Lab!).

Ginger's started to learn basic commands: sit, down, and shake. I think the Shar-Pei in her makes her super stubborn! "Come" is still a work in progress because sometimes she'll just look at you like "yeah, right, no way!" but she is excellent at "drop it" and "leave it" so we know she's smart enough to get things. She loves to fetch and chase leaves and old tennis balls. Ginger's also a great guard dog. Who would have thought the quiet, shy puppy we brought home would have such a terrific bark/howl. She may be small, but she does NOT have a yappy bark. She's still so laid back. We still can't believe her energy levels are so low! We're very thankful for it because we are still in the townhouse, but we do take her on outings every day.

It's still a mystery to us about her genetics. There is obvious Shar-Pei and there's definitely no Lab that we can see. We were thinking Vizsla, even though it's an odd combination. Still she's rather tiny for any of the dogs she looks like, so maybe she's a runt as well. Who knows, but we do like to guess. Sometimes we think she's half cat because she'll sleep right in between your legs or draped over your back. She also LOVES to be under the covers in the colder months and snuggle up between us.

Also just wanted to let you know she has become such a special part of our lives and she gets spoiled rotten. (Ginger is currently curled up in a ball between throw pillows on our couch.) So thank you for finding her and helping her get adopted to us. She's just so unusual and everyone asks us about her.

Thanks again!
Gwen

Geri,
Thanks for the e-mail. Happy is doing very well. She fits in with our family perfectly. She’s enjoying daily walks and lots of playtime. She’s taken right to the kids and is constantly checking up on them when they’re home. She’s come to love riding with us to pick up the kids or run errands. Whenever she hears keys, she’s ready to go.

Percy, our Dalmatian, is understandably the only one in the family who’s been slow to warm up to her. Percy has progressed after one week from barking and growling at her to sitting next to Happy to look at the window and watch what’s going on in the yard. Happy’s never been phased by Percy’s attitude. She keeps trying to get Percy to play with her.

We’re working on obedience training with Happy right now and just started her on training for the dogwatch fence. She’s a quick learner and eager to please. We’re very glad we adopted her and look forward to her being part of our family for many years.

Jennifer
