Home Adopt a Dog Memorials Adoptions 2010 Adoptions 2008-2009 Adoptions Archive
Our hope is that all dogs born into this world will one day find a home that provides as much
unconditional love and affection as they do. And although it is not realistic that all dogs can
be treated and cared for adequately, we like to commend our adoption parents that have
found a place in their heart to dedicate a little time and responsibility to welcome "man's best
friend" into their home. Undoubtedly, each new adoptive parent will find that in return for
their effort, they will come to understand the value of a four-legged friend who will love,
protect, and cherish their companionship more than ever.
The following are dogs that have been rescued by either the group sponsoring this website,
or others who have adopted from a shelter or other rescue group. We welcome you to
submit your "happy tail" to be posted. If interested, please e-mail us with a picture and brief
(100 words or less) story.

I've changed his name from Habey to Javy (the J is pronounced like an H), short for Javier, so it wasn't too much change. He's doing well! He was VERY shy for the first 2 or 3 days & barely wanted to leave the safety & comfort of my couch, but now he's wide open running through my apartment, following me all around & checking out all the rooms and closets.

He has become king of my bed at night time and takes up most of the room and blankets, but he loves to snuggle. He's mellow & doesn't ever bark, even when we walk & see other dogs & people. He doesn't like the leash much; Javy & I are still working on that, but he gets plently of fresh air & outside time. He found some of my old slippers the first time I left him alone, and they have been inseparable since, but I don't mind because he's so cute!

I took him to the beach for a little while on Sunday, but we didn't stay long because it was so windy & he didn't like it much, but we'll try again soon! I attached one picture of King Javy getting cozy on my bed...

Thanks for your help with my decision to adopt him! I love him!  :)

HI GERI,

Just thinking about you and Duchee was asking, too! Hoping this finds you well, she is loving life here on the lake in Chicago and as always has so many friends! She is definitely the most popular girl in class, everyone when they meet "oohs and ahhs" over her.

Most often we'll run across dogs who usually are not friendly and their owner is in disbelief how he/she takes to Duchess. Still very playful with most dogs, a bit skiddish with humans she doesn't know and we are working on this...

In the meantime, just wanted to say hi and share that my life is still so blessed with Duchess.

Love, Suzanne and your little Duchess of York. xo

Hi, Geri -
I just wanted to send you an update on Laddy Boy. He's doing great! His big sister, Laika, is getting used to sharing her toys & biscuits with him, and he has already taken over her house and re-arranged the blankets to his liking (not as neatly folded as she once liked them!). He has enjoyed going for walks & LOVES swimming in the lake! He still enjoys a good game of fetch, but a lot of the time, his sister likes to take his prize before he can get it back to us.

Over all he is settling in quite well at his new home. He is even starting to catch on to the "OFF!" command & we're seeing a little progress in that area! He & Laika officially stayed together today while we were working & things seem to have gone well. I even caught them sleeping side by side the other day & it tickled me!! We hope that he & Laika become the bestest of friends, too. :)

We'll send you another update soon!
Take care.

Hi, Geri ~

Hope you and the group are doing well!  :)

Just wanted to send you a quick pic of Laika & Laddy Boy... they had their grooming appointments yesterday and sported their Halloween scarves very proudly! Laddy Boy is doing well and seems to have adjusted to his new home. He and Laika appear to have learned how to communicate and we're very proud of how far they've come!! She still corrects him whenever he gets out of line and he lets her think she's the boss so it usually works out fine. They love to play first thing in the morning, and Laddy Boy dug a bigger basement under their house so they now sleep down there together.

Thanks again for all that you do and for allowing us the pleasure of having Laddy Boy in our lives. He's become a special part of our little family. (And, you probably would've guessed that he's a daddy's boy!)  :)

Talk to you soon.

Patches was adopted by a young man who had a Beagle during his teen years, and Miss Patches was a beautiful replacement.
Hello Geri,

Finally some pictures of Marley (now Bob Marley) with us at Myrtle Beach, here at the house, with Bob and Davis and Tador - his new best friend! I have a few of him at his new home that I will send separately.

Enjoy! Think of you often and hope all is well with you.

Marley's littermates Nugent and Baxter were also adopted. The entire litter was placed.

Hi Geri,

Rachel and I want to thank you and your hubby again for letting us get Black Jack. He is such an adorable and well mannered doggie. Rachel has put a claim on him, and he sleeps with her every night now on his blanket. Jack and Merlot are having a really great time playing outside most of the day. They are worn out at night and sleep like little babies all night.

I am sending some pics of the doggies with Rachel and the twin grandchildren, Harley and Jewel. We kept the kids last night and most of the day today and Jack and Merlot really had a good time playing with them. I was amazed at how well Jack took to Harley and Jewel. I knew Merlot would love having them here overnight but we didn't know how Jack would react to two 6 year olds. From the first moment he was all over them and they carried him around like he was a little baby ... lol. Truthfully though I think Jack and Merlot were kinda glad to see the kids go home a little while ago. They are worn out and taking an afternoon nap.

Take good care. If you guys are ever in this area do drop by to see us and the Doggies.

We just love Gina. We are having so much fun with her. She is just what we wanted. She is enjoying going for walks in the morning and afternoons. We took her with us to Charleston. She just had a great time. We are taking her to the beach in the RV when we go. She is going to have a busy summer. The boys get out of school on Thursday and the fun will begin. No more sleeping all day for her. Thanks for letting us have her. She has been a perfect addition to our family.
Hi Geri,

Scoob is doing great ... what a softie! He's so good with the kids ... and does well with Annie and our male cat (who just struts around him ... no fear or anything—I've truly been amazed at this cat's response to Scoob ... from the very beginning). He's a strong guy though, so hard to handle on a leash. Will definitely be booking him in for obedience ASAP. Also thinking about purchasing a "gentle leader" for walks ... came highly recommended. Tried one today and it worked great ... once he was used to wearing it. Have gotten together for a couple of walks with my mom's golden retriever, to get them accustomed to each other. They parallel walk just fine and have checked each other out. No words exchanged so far, though I’m sure it will be different, at least temporarily, once one ends up in the others' territory.

The only problem we're still experiencing is with our second cat ... who usually hides and is really scared of Scooby. Whenever she gets a glimpse of him, she growls and hisses. That sound, unfortunately, gets him on the defensive .. .and he goes a little crazy, which doesn't help anything. We're spending some time each day desensitizing (hopefully) the two of them, by putting them together ... while holding them. Today, I also put the cat in a wire dog crate for a couple of hours ... in the middle of the room. That way, she's safe, but can’t hide. Will continue this as long as necessary. With luck they'll get used to each others' presence and make peace over time.

Will let you know what happens.

Best, Courtney

Holly has finally made it to the kitchen. She loves the dining room and steals Toby’s toys to take them there. Toby is learning to share.

I am having a good time with her and plan to do some obedience training this week-end.

She is a good little dog. She is eating well and has already learned the treat routine.

Update: Holly is doing great! She and Toby are well bonded - she goes where he goes. They are chocolate and vanilla. Holly has recovered wonderfully from her mange and bears her name well, Holly for hollandaise and Toby is for toblerone.

The vet has said from the beginning that the care she got from you contributed mightily to her recovery. Her coat is so smooth and pretty now you would hardly recognize her. I was looking at 2010 adoption photos and saw Salvador's picture. Holly looks just like her brother and looks an awful lot like Nat.

I am attaching pictures. You may want to update on Holly on the Web site since she looked so pitiful with no fur and is now so pretty...

Thank you so much again. Holly is a wonderful addition to our home.

Diane

Hi Geri!
Have I told you how much I love this puppy! We have been together a week and he is nothing less than a total delight! He is so smart and he has the best personality! He isn't a great eater and that concerns me, but I think it will improve over time.

He is doing fantastic on the leash and has met many neighborhood pooches. He ran around like a freight train with Shelby, another adopted rescue pup who inspired us to get a pup in the first place. They ran until Shelby couldn't take it any more. She's 20 months old and at least twice Luca's weight. He really held his own. He's a tough little guy.

He had his well check at the vet and he now weighs 32 lbs! He is so good in his crate at night. We never hear a peep out of him. John is totally infatuated with him! He spends all of his time with Luca when he is not at work. Luca is getting really great at fetching and dropping the ball - much to John's delight! Luca and Mac are friends. He knows sit, and is learning come and down and Hurry up (to do his business!), he knows fetch and drop it too! He is a quick study and anxious to please. He likes to earn all of those treats! (that's probably why he's never hungry!).

I just wanted to give you and update and to thank you again for all that you did for Luca and us. We couldn't have gotten a better puppy!

Lisa

Animal Angels Update: Luca's mom had a DNA test ... The results are Labrador Retriever (duh) and .... are you ready?...Great Dane and Dachshund!! He is one of the seven dumped but now thriving in NJ ... from baby to young man in six months! Here's another update from his new home:

Luca was 28 pounds when we got him from you. Now he is 40 lbs. He still is a terrible eater believe it or not! I don't think he'll get much bigger... but Great Dane??!!

He is wonderful by the way. He is still all puppy and I have to really exercise him and watch him constantly. Knock wood, he hasn't had any more accidents in the house. He is still ringing the bell to go out ... even when he just wants my attention! He ate his bed numerous times. I broke two sewing needles trying to fix it. Finally it was beyond fixing so I tossed it. We cut a piece of carpet instead and he ate that the first night!

He loves the doggie park and playing with the big dogs.  He loves our walks and swimming. He harasses my cat regularly. We adore him. We are going to the beach for a week and can't take him. :( My friend offered to doggie sit with her Australian Cattle dog. I am having separation anxiety!

Be well. Talk to you soon.
Lisa

Geri

He is settled in and loving his new home now. Things are great.

Update: Hello! Just thought I would send you some recent pictures of Patton. He has adjusted very well to his new home. He knows his new name pretty well (I can even call him off from chasing rabbits and squirrels in the back yard which doesn't have a fence. His favorite activities are playing ball 4 or 5 times a day with us, wrestling with our cat (she usually wins) and laying on his new Kong bed which at first he couldn't believe was all his. Hope you guys are doing well.

Hi there ... Coco is doing better every day ... Gretchen says after his last visit that it looks healthy and appears to be getting lots of love ... which he is!

He hates the back yard and won't even poop back there, wants to be walked for his pooping and would rather be in the house following the girls 24/7. We'll know more about the heartworms in 4 more months but Gretchen said he's showing no signs that would cause us to believe that it didn't work.

He's spoiled and has a tendency to jump a little too much but that is to be expected for a pup. We love him and we see him adjusting more and more every day. He had is first grooming 2 weeks ago and HATED that more than anything (lady told us he barked the entire time) ... He has such a little spunk about him and has no qualms about letting you know he doesn't like something!!!  :)

He's very fond of this pink bone/toy Annastin picked out for him. Silly boy!

Attached is a picture of Brooklyn and Coco just the other day. Will send more ...

Take Care

Rocky was adopted by a young man in his final year of college. Last report, Erik and Rocky were jogging the beach somewhere near Newport News, VA.

Here's a few pictures, some on the couch and some in the yard. He's so relaxed and low maintenance and such a great companion.

Thank you again, Geri.

Hi Geri! The dogs are doing great. They're so good. We love them. And it's nice to have their company. Teaser's still skinny but we do feed him. We spoil them with treats and lots of love.

Teaser sometimes "bullies" Radar but he's just playing. And Radar doesn't hesitate to put him in his place. Teaser does the cutest thing when we come home; it's this hop jumping thing but he gets wrinkles around his face. We love it! Radar cracks us up every time he wants more attention he comes closer and gets jealous if you pet Teaser. We call Teaser the baby and Radar the big boy so it makes sense now knowing Reader's birthday.

Kevin and I just wanted to let you know how great the dogs are. Both have opened up so much! Teaser loves Kevin and always looks for him when he leaves for work. He also has become much better at walking on a leash. Radar is wonderful too! He is always so happy and playful. He always lets us know when he has to go out.
